About the programme
The European Stroke Master Programme has been developed by the Stroke Center at the University Hospital Bern in close collaboration with the European Stroke Organisation. The programme aims to train the next generation of clinicians and researchers in stroke care throughout Europe.
The purpose of the programme is to cover the entire field of stroke medicine, ranging from basic knowledge in pathophysiology, acute management of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke, primary and secondary prevention to neurorehabilitation. In addition, a research focus is maintained throughout all lectures, workshop and seminars, covering all aspects of basic, translational and clinical stroke research. An international faculty of world leading stroke experts will provide lectures, seminars and workshops in close collaboration with the local faculty at the ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥.
The programme covers five semesters and is structured in nine modules and a master thesis. It consists of 3 weeks of face-to-face teaching at the University Hospital Bern with intensive on-site learning courses and hands-on training. Other parts of the programme will be achieved by distance learning. The ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥ will provide an all-in-one Learning Platform, offering an exceptional learning expertise. This learning platform will enable students to participate at lectures, workshops and webinars, to interact with the programme coordinators and the faculty, to access the online library with teaching material, videos, guidelines and scientific articles. Furthermore, participants will create a “Stroke Literature and News Wiki”, which will be connected to the Stroke Guideline App and will be open to the whole stroke community. Practical experiences will be gained at established stroke centers throughout Europe with internships of 3 weeks.
This postgraduate course is offered to meet the demands of the increased incidence of stroke across Europe and to enable the harmonization of knowledge about diagnosis and therapy of stroke on an evidence-based basis. The need for medical doctors in the field of stroke medicine to have theoretical knowledge and practical skills on the topics of prevention, acute treatment, rehabilitation and the follow-up treatment of patients is steadily growing. This programme will not only enable the participants to advance scientifically but ultimately help them leading a unit for stroke medicine or to take on a managerial function.
