Blue University

In 2010, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared access to clean water a . This promise is far from being delivered for everyone – and climate change is also exacerbating the situation. Water – especially clean water – is in short supply. Therefore, it is vital that society searches for solutions. The scientific community has a significant part to play in this. These solutions fall within the scope of sustainable development – a key strategic area of the ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥ in its Strategy 2030.

The ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥ is a Blue University 

In September 2013, the ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥ joined the “” initiative and became the first university in the world to be awarded the “” label. 

The following four principles are respected by all Swiss Blue Communities and thus by the ´ºÉ«Ö±²¥ and supported with specific measures: 

  1. Recognition of water as a human right 
  2. Water supply services remain in the public sector 
  3. Drink tap water instead of bottled water 
  4. A Blue Community maintains public partnerships with international partners
